Aim: How was Cold War policy shaped by the Civil Rights Movement?  
Bell Ringer: Collect Social Conformity Thesis and Interstate Highway System/1950s Ad Assignments 

Objectives:  
  1. 1. SS.912.A.7.4-Modern United States: Global Leadership and Domestic Issues: Evaluating the success of the 1960s-era presidents’ foreign and domestic policies.  
  1. 2. SS.912.A.7.10: Analyze the significance of Vietnam and Watergate on the government and people of the United States.  
  1. 3. SS.912.A.7.13: Analyze the attempts to extend New Deal legislation through the Great Society and the successes and failures of these programs to promote social and economic stability.  
  1. 4. SS.912.A.7.17: Examine key events and key people in Florida history as they relate to United States history. 
  
Agenda: 
1. Bell Ringer (2 min)  
2. Review journals 71-74 (10 min)  
3. Have students recall knowledge gained during previous class’s Civil Rights lesson by identifying one Supreme Court case, the issue it addressed, and the ultimate precedence(s) set and results of the court’s decision. (5 minutes)  
4.Establishing Background/Note Taking: Students will take Cornell Notes while the teacher presents the PowerPoint slideshow provided. The notes will briefly introduce the links between Civil Rights and American Cold War foreign policy.  
3. Review 1960s Foreign & Domestic Policies Quiz questions before reading Attachment C "Cold War Civil Rights." The teacher will explain how Cold War foreign policy was shaped by the Civil Rights movement and visa versa. Read Attachment G (10-15 minutes)
